Pip and her pessimistic Matt loved the American pancakes. I burned myself so much. I remembered to take everything to the church except for the spatula, so I had to use two forks to flip them which requires your hands to get entirely too close to the pan. I tried some method that I thought would prevent me from burning my fingers anymore, but I ended up burning my elbow on the machine that heats up water for tea. Just my luck. Another British guy tried them, and he liked them too. They couldn't believe they are a breakfast food. I let them keep the American syrup, and Pip go so excited. She's so cute.
When Gabe and I went to pick up Matt England at the airport, we decided to use disguises and stand apart and see how long it took Matt to recognize one of us. As we were waiting for him to emerge from the double doors, we heard this: "Would the person waiting for Matthew England please report to the Information Desk." Gabe and I both arrived at the desk at the same time. Turns out when he was going through Customs they decided not to admit him because he didn't know Gabe's address. He's only there for a week. My goodness. So we gave them the address and considered putting away our disguises. We changed our minds. He walked right passed each of us, so we followed him for a bit. Then we each took one side of him and walked right next to him, brushing his arms, staring at him, and it still took him a minute to notice us. He must have been suffering from a severe case jet lag.
My night in the airport wasn't so bad. I passed the time reading, drawing, writing, and watching the Hudsucker Proxy. There were no seats in that area of the airport. Finally, when I was allowed to check in two and a half hours before my flight was scheduled to depart, I found a comfy couch to claim. After I boarded the flight, I found I was sitting next to a British lady. She was nice and talked to me some. I watched parts of Chicago, Lilo and Stitch, and Confessions of a Dangerous Mind. They stuffed us with food the entire flight. First they gave us crackers, then a full salad, full plate of excellent pasta, rolls, and a Kitkat. Later they brought us cake, then some cookies. I'm telling you, I ate the entire flight, except for the two hours that I slept. Our flight arrived 50 minutes early in Chicago! 50 minutes! Because I really needed that extra hour. It was so easy to get my bags, go through Customs, and then return them. I had to inform them that I had been around farms and stayed in Bed and Breakfasts. They determined I would be alright, and they didn't need to take my blood and give me a vaccine. Whew! It seemed like I was in Chicago forever. Then there was the quick flight home that boarded late but managed to arrive on time. Customs was so much easier in Chicago than it would have been in Atlanta. They had your luggage right at the place where you exited your flight with plenty of free trolleys. So I just grabbed my bags, tossed them on a trolley, pushed it about 10 feet, a man took them, placed them on a belt, they cleared, and he sent me on my merry way, somehow managing to send my bags to the correct plane for me. Piece of cake. I think all totaled, I traveled for 30 hours to get from Hull to Gadsden. Pants.
My mom is making a scrap book for me. It looks chic.
