I love Fordham to death. I really do. I know there's a lot of haters out there, and honestly there are a few things I don't like about the school- FinAid being one of them- but nothing is perfect.
I don't think I go more than two months without having to pay the Financial Aid office a visit. It's annoying, they always lose things, but if there's one thing I've learned, you have to BE PERSISTENT. (Chances are, if you're not burdened by bureaucracy now, you probably will be at some point in your future.) However, I was in a somewhat similar situation when I first applied. Fordham originally gave me a decent scholarship and some heafty loans, but I sent them a few stern phone calls and a copy of my award statements from Adelphi and NYU (full scholarship @ Adelphi, big grants from NYU), and I had a personal interview with one of the counselors in the spring of my senior year in high school. Suffice to say, I came out of everything with my tuition covered, and I'm just paying room and board.
Make sure they know your name when you call. Don't let them forget you. Get really personal (not mean, just personal. Try to remember the secretaries' names, too- especially if you have to keep calling back. I remember the guy I talked to was named Juan- try to talk to him!) Be patient. If at all possible, try to meet them in person. And always, always stress that Fordham is DEFINITELY the place you want to be. Tell them that you'd hate to have to go to Seton Hall. Be assertive and don't show any signs of weakness.
Don't let the FinAid people get you down. Fordham is a great school and the students are really outgoing and passionate. I've never for a moment regretted my decision to come here. Good luck, and hopefully we'll see you on campus in September!
