Weekend in Zurich

I almost didn't go to Zurich this weekend, but akeela more or less pushed me out of the house. "It'll do you good," he said. He was absolutely right. What a wonderful weekend!

My old colleague Jody met me at Zurich station on Friday night. Following the best of our old traditions, we promptly got drunk. By Saturday afternoon I'd recovered enough to go to the Swiss-furs meet in Oerlikon, there to find many of the old crowd (including akeyla *wag*), and also Cougar and rhondil. I talked a lot with tambako, and learned that I can still speak French, given a sympathetic listener and some help with the complicated words. We ended up in a funny trilingual conversation; it was silly and nice.

While talking at the bar, patrix_darkhoof and I were set upon by one of the Scary Women who inexplicably infest Zurich. Scary Women can be quite fun, in a oh-fuck-get-me-outta-here kind of way, but this one had something rotten inside her. Soulless staring eyes, lumpy wandering fingers... it was like being courted by a little saprophytic spider. Fortunately the barman was clued-up and put her where she couldn't creep anyone else out.

After the meet, rosily aglow, the fiend forgotten, a small pack of us took the S-train back to Naut's place where I'd lived for most of 2006. PatriX is Naut's flatmate now, so naturally blue_panther came with us, and Rhondil too. We sat on the living-room floor and talked and drank for hours; it was serene and companionable and entirely delightful-unconditionally the high point of my weekend. I haven't been so happy for months, except maybe for a few romps with Mischa. I woke up the next morning in bed with Rhondil and Naut, with all my clothes on the floor. I don't think anything untoward happened (it doesn't hurt to walk) but you might have to ask the other two.

On Sunday I met up with my old colleague and mentor Rod, and his engaging brat of a twelve-year-old son. We went wandering around Zurich, rough-housing, scaring the ducks, stopping off for hot chocolate in small cafés, and alternately talking about security protocols and something called Yugio cards. I got accosted by another Scary Woman, but a harmless one, talkative rather than frightening.

On Sunday night I kipped on Naut's sofa; this morning I caught up with my colleagues at The Bank; and now I'm on the train, less than an hour from home. And Mischa. :)
