Roe's bush

I found out Tim Wise has a new book being released on the same day (September 1) as David Mura's new one. Wise's new book is Speaking Treason Fluently: Anti-Racist Reflections from an Angry White Male. Maybe I should take the day off to buy both of them and start reading. Hopefully I still have some money on my Borders gift card by then.

Reading Arundhati Roy's new book has been interesting. In addition to some new interviews, it reprints several interviews that were previously published in the U.S. in The Checkbook and the Cruise Missile. For some reason the publisher actually converted American English into British English instead of leaving the interviews as is. Maybe that's a normal thing to do--and I'm sure whatever software they use can do it in seconds--but for some reason I wasn't expecting that.

I finally finished Killing the Black Body: Race, Reproduction, and the Meaning of Liberty. I'd had that book on my night stand for a ridiculously long time. Some books I read right away, and others I read a little bit at a time. This was definitely an example of the latter.

The world's largest rubber band ball is in Tucson right now. Hopefully I can see it while it's here.
