For
akino After Tears
There were always certain things in life that she always took for granted. Her clothes, her face, her hair-in essence, she took herself for granted.
When she met Sasuke and Naruto though, that changed drastically.
Sometimes, she would simply watch Naruto devour his bowl of ramen. Or she would watch him fight-seriously fight with that look in his eyes that would kill. She would see him look at herself. And she never again took herself for granted.
She knew she loved him-it was really very easy. He was an idiot-loud, conceited, annoying; yet anyone who knew him-really knew him like they did, loved him.
Sasuke was different. She had never taken him for granted before. From the moment she set her eyes on him, she knew, absolutely, irrevocably-she was in love, with Sasuke, who was so much more subtle, more graceful, and more beautiful.
And now, the sun was setting.
Slowly, she stood, placing down the book she was reading to walk to the window. Naruto also looked up-his eyes were sad, and she tried not to know, even as he left the room.
Sasuke was sitting outside, his back to her, his eyes almost in a trance staring into the sun.
She knew he knew she was there.
The first time she had done this, his back had stiffened, but he hadn’t looked back. It saved her face, she guessed, and for that she was grateful.
Now, it was as if he didn’t even know she was there (but he did know). It made her somewhat happy to know that she was now like a part of him, but it killed something inside her to know that he never really noticed her anymore, as though she simply contributed to the atmosphere.
Yet, even as she thought this, he suddenly turned and looked straight at her.
It caught her so off guard, she took a step back, stumbled, and fell. When she dared to look back, he had stood, but he wasn’t looking at her anymore.
She crumpled to the floor, disappointed and relieved, and slowly, tears fell from her eyes.
He was staring into the sun, arms outstretched, to wait for eternity.
