superstar (akito&sana); short

For tarigwaemir.

With Sana on stage, Akito thought it was the most beautiful thing he had ever seen.

"Really?" she said, stopping her victory dance for a moment to look at him. "You said that?"

He scowled. "Of course not, with pretty boy on stage, it was pretty disgusting."

Tsuyoshi cut in. "Yeah, he said it."

"I did not."

"Well, you thought it. It was pretty clear to anyone watching."

Akito hit his head. Tsuyoshi wailed plaintively, and Aya gently took him away, not before shooting daggers at Akito. He ignored her and looked at Sana.

"You look old," he said. "Even older than that time..."

"What time?" she pulled out the pins in her hair, but it stayed in place. She laughed. "Too much hairspray."

"Nevermind," he said. "No time."

She began to wash the layers of makeup off. "You know, this is my first time on stage."

"..."

"No, I'm serious! I mean, I've done so many TV shows, a few movies, but never live. Never like this." She paused. "I liked it," she continued softly. "If Naozumi-kun hadn't suggested it..." Akito made a face. "Stop it! Hayama, he's not that bad!" He grimaced and she sighed. "Anyhow, if he hadn't suggested it, then I wouldn't have been able to perform in front of all of you-Aya, Fuuka, Tsuyoshi, you. It was great."

He thought about this the next time that he saw her on a talk show.

"Sana-chan (I may call you that right?), you've done so much despite your young age! First the hit series Kodomo no Omocha, then the movie The Water Mansion, and now an actual play! And we're guessing that you're still not done. What's next?"

Sana laughed. "Actually, I’ve been thinking about concentrating on school a little more..."

"What?! Surely, Sana-chan, you don't have to go to school; you can have private tutors. If you stop now, who knows? Your popularity may die! You may go from superstar to one of those forgotten obscure child actors!"

Akito almost wanted to feel indignant, but he watched quietly.

Sana looked at the host thoughtfully. "I guess that could happen..."

"Remember during the filming of The Water Mansion? How fellow child actor Naozumi almost upstaged you?"

Now Akito was indignant.

"Naozumi-kun is very talented," Sana smiled, "and he is much more talented than I am. I was very proud to have worked with him on that.

"The thing is," she continued, leaning forward, "I'd like to have more time for my family and friends. I realized how little I saw them after I did this play, and even though I enjoy doing what I do, I'd like to look at my other choices.

"It's so corny, isn't it?” Sana laughed. "But I really do feel so." Her eyes were shining.

He shut off the TV.

"I saw it," he said to her, the next time they met.

"Hmm?" she pulled at her socks.

"That talk show."

"Which one?"

"..."

"No, really!"

"Sana-chan's such a superstar, she doesn't even remember what shows she's done," Tsuyoshi chimed in.

"...oh."

"It's not that, you guys..."

"Really? You hardly have any time for us anyway."

"NO." She stamped her foot and glared at the two. "The shows are pre-taped, and I don't know when they play them."

Tsuyoshi made a clicking sound. "See. She doesn’t even care enough to ask!"

Akito managed to get him to leave, so that they were alone. Do we mean so much to you? he really wanted to ask, but he knew what her answer would be.

She walked a little ahead of him, and he watched her, until she finally turned around. "Slowpoke," she teased, poking his stomach.

It growled.

They stared at each other for a long moment, then Sana began to laugh, so hard that she fell to the floor. People around them stared, but neither cared. Then someone snapped a picture, stopping Sana mid-giggle. She sighed.

"Let's go eat."

He nodded, glaring at the crowd that had assembled.

There was a takoyaki stand nearby, and they sat on a park bench and ate in silence.

"I like this," she said suddenly.

He nodded, chewing vigorously.

"Not," she pointed at the takoyaki, "this. THIS," as if he could see what she was talking about. Her eyes were shining, but instead of looking away, he stared harder.

She leaned over as if to kiss him on the cheek, but he quickly turned his head to touch his lips to hers.

"I love you," she said, and he believed her.
