Went for a walk this morning, up to the bank (like you do). That was not so wonderful, but we came back through the woods and it was fantastic! Toadstools, mushrooms and moulds everywhere, thanks to the recent rain.
In the root-clefts of a rotting silver birch stump, three slimy globules that looked like discoloured egg yolks. Quite large - like standard chicken egg size. But they were not egg yolks, or monster larvae - they were more mushrooms pushing their way through... I forgot to take the camera with me, of course, but I've found a photo
here. It's not as wonderful and weird-looking as the three we saw, though.
I love woods - so beautiful. So sinister. (Can you tell that I'm writing about woods at the moment? *g*)
