And all of that came to my mind just because of waiting to an episode of Dr Who

Sociology class yesterday touched an interesting subject. We talked about prejudice, something that I've been thinking about for a while. I don't think there's a person who's free of it completely. Me neither. I do realize though, that it may be quite a setback. As I enjoy finding new interesting aspects of the personalities of different people, I ( Read more... )

Have you [or someone you know] moved to another country before finishing high school? How did it affect your future? What do you think about? Is it worthy, or it's better to finish school in a better known language?I moved from China to Canada when I was one, lived in the States for a very brief period of time before elementary school, lived back in China two years around middle school, then moved back to Canada again. Most of my friends have lived in different countries as well (I went to international school in Shanghai for a while, so it's sort of a requirement). Idk if it affected my future much, tbh - I mean, I guess if I stayed in China the first time, I might be going to some Chinese university, but my parents would never have stayed in China, so... or if I had stayed in China the second time, I might be going to an American uni instead like a lot of my friends (not likely, since I have Canadian citizenship anyways). My schooling was done entirely in English, so I can't help you with the language thing, either :p I did pick up ( ... )

Wow, that's a lot of traveling you've had. What about always adjusting to new places? New people?

Btw, since you live in Canada, can you tell me a bit about life there [in general]? I think there's a chance we'll move there.

I've had lots of friends move to the United States from different countries. It really depends but as long as you know the language, things should be alright. It will take some time adjusting but nothing too major. My personal advice, finish school first. At least this way, you wouldn't have to worry as much about your schoolwork and adjusting to a new environment.

The thing is, i'm a little bit worried about the level of education here, that's why I'd like to finish school in another country. I'd also like to get higher education abroad, so I thought if I can finish high school there it'll give me preparation.
On the other side, I could finish school with better grades, since I know the language well enough.

Anyway, it's too early to talk about it :) Maybe it won't be less than few years before we move. Thanks for the advice, though :)

I moved around quite a lot as a child. The only thing that I hate and still hate about it, is how restless it made me. I'm not used to being with the same people for long periods of time. Like I would never have the same friends for more than two years and now I've known my friends for six years and there are times when I completely alienate myself from them like act like I don't even know them because it just feels weird, you know, I'm used to leaving people. They are other things that affected me like the lower standard of discipline and teacher styles but the restlessness is what still affects me to this day.

If I were you, I'd finish the year and then move instead of moving during the school year. Or move in time to catch the start of the school year in where ever you're moving too, if that makes any sense.

Oh, I really hope you'll get over this restlessness thing. I think that with time you'll get used to having permanent friends without keeping distance from them.
Where did you move then?

That was what I intended to do, maybe in the end of the next year. It might be Canada, I don't know :)
