I'd love a Knish - we *never* get them here. Think you're sending a care-package to yourself when you've been in England for a year, and let me know what you'd like out of..
Deli-type ingredients which you could send in a care-package to a New Yorker missing home.
Quirky things, like the Union Square Cafe Bar's mixed glazed nuts/interesting spreads you put on toast/quintessentially American institution processed foods (e.g. Kraft dinner).
Recent experience at Yonnah Schimmel's KnishesmaziemausDecember 2 2004, 07:40:58 UTC
I got an assortment of knishes at Yonnah Schimmel about 2 months ago and was unimpressed. I heard, afterward, that they'd sold the building and the shop. Evidently, the quality used to be quite good but has deteriorated.
(I was at Russ & Daughters on Tuesday evening - A joy and a wonder :) )
I don't know about stores (I tend to take things for granted) but ask her to bring you back NY bagels. She should buy them right before she leaves so they remain fresh. Believe me, you haven't had a bagel until you've had one from NY.

could you be a little more specific? is there anything you're dying for that's particularly "american" or "NYC"?
maybe she could bring us some of the british cadbury...way better than the american version!

NYC to me means street food, bagels (real bagels), delicious ethnic cuisine from all over the world, and fine dining.
