Today is my lovely boyfriend’s birthday and to celebrate the fact I made him delicious Ham in Cherry-Cola from Nigella Lawson’s Feast. Behind the cut are photos of the ham from its raw state to delicious cherry glazed finery.
The beautiful ham as it appeared upon arrival. Expensive, lovely organic mail-order gammon which delighted the boyfriend as it had been a super, secret surprise. After this it was cut open, put in a pan of water and left over night.
In its bath of cherry-coke, with some onions thrown in for flavour. Behind you can see the recipe I was following.
After two hours in the cherry cokes beautiful meat emerges to be studded with cloves and to have the fat trimmed off. If I had been thinking I would have saved the fat and made pork scratching with it but instead we gave it to the cats who promptly turned their noses up and demanded the real meat.
In the oven with cherry glaze on top. Starting to look completely delicious.
After cooking in the oven - it smelled so good I couldn’t believe it. And while time consuming was mostly me leaving it alone to cook for long periods of time.
Plated up and ready to be devoured. The boyfriend adored it and I have to say it was delicious. Looking forward to the leftovers in sandwiches tomorrow!
