Chicago rec's.

Hello all! I went through the tags and found some posts similar to mine, but they're all from 2007, and I figure things have changed since then, so I hope this is okay.

My friend and I wanted to do something for spring break, but nothing too expensive (we spent a lot on a trip last year). She lives near Chicago (the Orland Park area), so we decided to stay at her place and go into the city every day. So, wonderful pornistas--any recommendations?

As I said before, we don't want to spend too much money--we're both college students, and I'm in grad school, so it's not like we could go to a restaurant with a $100 tasting menu or something every night. But other than that--have at it. Chicago favorites? New, exciting up-and-comers? Old greasy spoons that still shouldn't be missed? Let me know. We're open to trying different ethnic foods, and are thinking about trying one nicer, more expensive (but still not in the $100 tasting menu realm) place.

And besides restaurants--any food stores I should go to? Somewhere famous for their spices, oils, pastas, etc.? I've never been to a Trader Joe's or Whole Foods, as there are none in my area--should I try to stop at one? And if so, anything in particular I should look for?

Thank you in advance for all your help!
