Fried shrimp lunch

Jun 07, 2007 00:01

Contents: Fried shrimp with tonkatsu sauce in a pre-filled sauce container for speed, mixed brown rice with cilantro and sweet crispy ume plum, tomatoes and cucumbers marinated in sanbaizu, steamed broccoli, whole apricot, strawberry and grapes. Morning prep time: 15 minutes, using leftovers and store-bought frozen food.

Below are little snack packages of seedless, crispy ume plums, sold in my local Japanese market (Muraoka brand). The one on the left is sour, the one on the right is sweet. At about US$1.25 per pouch of six plum halves, these were pricey but tasty. My two-year-old doesn't care for the sour ones, so I used sweet ume in today's mixed rice.

I used mini frying equipment today: cooling rack, draining rack and tiny pan, bought at a dollar store. Possible substitute is a 2-piece stainless steel soap dish (sink tray); details here.
