guinness cake or mango puree?

A conundrum for you my lovelies....

I will start by saying that I am leaving this Saturday morning for a week-long trip and I have this amazingly fragrant and luscious mango that is at the peak of ripeness -- I need to use it up before I leave.

Now, I am attending a get-together tomorrow night with my pirate singing group (Rogues & Wenches, we are!) to taste many different beers and paint some practically piratical pins for our fundraiser. I offered to bring the dessert because I love to bake.

So I started thinking about cheesecakes or sponge cakes that I could make to showcase an amazing mango-raspberry puree. Good fruit is really a treat here in Alaska (where fruit is shipped to us unripe and unless it's bananas or other fruit that ripens after picking... it's horrible). But a cheesecake is a bit too time intensive and I haven't tried making a sponge cake before and would hate to have it turn out crappy.

But then! I found a recipe by Nigella Lawson for a dark, chocolatey Guinness Cake with a fluffy white frosting that looks just like the foamy head on a pint of Guinness. This would fit better with our "theme" of ale-tasting....

What do you guys think? Go with the Guinness Cake or do you have another brilliant idea what I can do with the mango?
