Halloween Punch?

Does anyone know a good recipe for a rum based punch? This is for a Halloween party, so I'd like it to be something creepy or gross sounding. I'd like it to be darkish red in color and try to avoid orangy flavors (like orange juice ( Read more... )

I don't know what kind of punch you might use this with (I don't remember what was in the punch I got this from...other then ginger ale, which is of little help...but does go nicely with rum, imho) but find some surgical gloves (I like the kind marked low latex odor) rinse them, fill them with mashed strawberries and freeze. When ready to serve remove strawberry "hands" from gloves and float in punch bowl. You get an awesome fleshy effect as the hands melt.

Witches' Brew

25.4 oz bottle of sparkling cider (chilled)
1 qt bottle cranberry juice cocktail (chilled)
1 liter bottle club soda/seltzer water (chilled)
1 C dark rum

For spice syrup:
2 cinnamon sticks
5 whole cloves 3 TB finely chopped and peeled fresh ginger
1/3 C water
1/3 C sugar

Make spice syrup:
In a small saucepan bring syrup ingredients to a boil, stirring until sugar is dissolved, and simmer, covered 5 minutes. Cool syrup. May be made ahead and chilled up to one week.

In a punch bowl, combine remaining ingredients and strain syrup through a fine sieve into punch. Stir punch and add ice. Makes about 13 cups.

This is going to be the signature drink served at my pumpkin carving party this weekend.

Ginger ale, rum, and pomegranate juice. Very good without the rum as well. With rum, called "dragon's blood", without rum called "virgin's blood".

We made a good punch one year which had various things from the cupboard as a base, and grenadine to make it red. You could use any base, but two additions made it really halloweeny: We'd been making mini jack'o'lanterns out of oranges, and so we put the orange guts in the punch as 'innards'. You said you didn't want orange flavours, but you could use other citrus like grapefruit or lime.

The second thing we did was add a tin of lychees (along with thier syrup)to the punch! This really added depth to the flavour, and the fruits floated around eerily as 'eyeballs'

2 2-liter jugs of hawaiian punch.
2 big bags of frozen strawberries
Tea to taste

blend or otehr wise chop up the strawberries loosely.
Pour allliquids together in a big ol punchbowl, and add the strawberry chunks. Looks enough like coagulated blood that my former serviceman buddy couldn't go near it. :-)
