Cheese Idea!

Part of my story has to do with a young man taking a job in which he lies about so he can pay the bills. So he takes a job as a chef and his first assignment is a party in which the featured item is cheese. He barely knows what to cook but somehow manages to be able to accomplish the job.
Does anyone know of any really good cheeses and ideas for things for the party? I don't want to make the items too fancy but something quite complex.
