New Lincoln Book

You knew it was coming, didn't you? After the Jane Austin zombie
books, it was just a matter of time. On 2 March, the new book by Seth
Graham-Smith goes on sale: _Abraham Lincoln--Vampire Hunter._ This was announced
in the newsletter from the Lincoln Presidential Library (there will
also soon be an exhibit in the Museum about how Gothic Horror was
connected to Lincoln (he was apparently a fan of Edgar Alan Poe). The
book is supposed to be tongue in cheek but mainly an interpretation
of Lincoln's tragic life, with the vampire-influence inserted
seamlessly (in the book, for example, his mother is killed by a vampire, not milk sickness).

I don't know if I'll buy the hardcover, but I'm certainly going to
be looking at it. It sounds like a hoot and might bring Lincoln to
the attention of kids more interested in Twilight than history. The
whole concept is amusing and to tell the truth, I think it would have
had Lincoln slapping his thigh, laughing and slipping on fangs to
scare Willie and Tad!
