I'm just finishing up an epic rewatch of Battlestar Galactica, so I did a picspam of 10 eps I loved. I don't know if this is actually my definitive Top Ten BSG Episodes, but it's probably close. Eps are in airdate order, not ranked, and I've combined some of the two-part eps and treated them as one.
Massive spoilers ahead. Click at your own risk.
"Sometimes you gotta roll a hard six."
"What does that mean, sir?"
"Uh, I don't know. It's something my dad says."
- Lee "Apollo" Adama and Jammer -
This episode MOVES. From the first moment, there's danger lurking around every corner, and you're never quite sure what might come next. Plus you get to see Kara's apartment, and there's Dee/Billy adorableness, as it should be.
"I'm Sharon, but I'm a different Sharon. I know who I am. I don't have hidden protocols or programs lying in wait to be activated. I make my own choices, I make my own decisions, and I need you to know this is my choice."
- Sharon "Athena" Agathon -
Mythology, emotional reunions, badassery, political strife, inspirational speeches, Athena saving the Colonials' asses, Tricia Helfer being adorable, this two-parter has it all.
"After what we've been through, it would be very easy to give up, to lose hope. But not here. Not today. This is more than a ship, Chief. This is an act of faith. It is proof that despite all we've lost, we keep trying. And we will get through this, all of us, together. I promise."
- President Laura Roslin -
This is probably my fave BSG ep of all. Athena saving everyone's asses can pretty much make any episode one of my favorites, but I also really love the sense of comraderie displayed in this ep as everyone works to build the blackbird. And the Starbuck/Apollo moments are an added bonus.
"Frak you."
"You're not my type."
- Admiral Helena Cain and Gina Inviere -
The main three things I love about these eps: Epic space battles, Helo/Athena, and the revenge of Gina Inviere on Helena Cain.
"It was friendly fire. Lee got hit by friendly fire. I think it was me."
- Kara "Starbuck" Thrace -
Everyone dressed so pretty, triangle of awkward, Dana Delany, Starbuck being badass, angst, angst, and more angst!
"This is love. These people love me. I love them. I didn't pretend to feel something so I could screw people over. I loved them. And then I betrayed them! I shot a man I love, frakked over another man, ruined his life, and why? Because I'm a lying machine! I'm a frakking Cylon!"
- Sharon "Boomer" Valerii -
Flashbacks, Head!Baltar, Happy Agathons, and the only awesome Boomer there ever was.
"My entire race may be wiped out. Does a Cylon keep her word, even if it means she's the last one in the universe? Can a human being do that?"
- Sharon "Athena" Agathon -
This episode is all about Helo/Athena for me. Her committment to keeping her word. His committment to what he thinks is right. Their loyalty and love for each other are epic, and this episode is the perfect representation of them.
"I missed you."
"I missed you too."
- Kara "Starbuck" Thrace and Lee "Apollo" Adama -
The epicness of Starbuck and Apollo is what makes this episode great, but I also love the other little glimpses we get of what life was like on New Caprica. Plus everyone beats the shit out of everyone else.
"You're born, you live and you die. There are no do-overs, no second chances to make things right if you frak 'em up the first time. Not in this life anyway."
- Kendra Shaw -
I love all the backstory we get in this episode. What really happned on the during Cain's command of Pegasus, the relationship between Cain and Gina, Husker during the First Cylon War, the first cylon hybrid, Lee's command of the Pegasus, and most of all: Kendra Shaw. A great character I wish we'd seen a lot more of.
"I want you all to understand this! If you do this, there will be no forgiveness. No amnesty. This boy died honoring his uniform. You, you'll die with nothing."
- Admiral William Adama -
This episode is the epitome of the unthinkable -- battlelines are drawn and you never know who's on which side. In the midst of the chaos, Starbuck and Apollo are once again fighting side-by-side, and Adama must take back his own ship.
