New Gears and After Thoughts

Purchased a Canon speedlite and battery grip this afternoon after my new photography course - Professional Diploma in Portrait Photography.

The course is taught by a well known HK Photographer - Alain Yip. This afternoon's lesson concentrated on opening our eyes in the world of photography. Skills and experiences are important elements. However, having a good perspective and able to bring out the feel and atmosphere are more important.

In this afternoon's class, I "travelled" around the world by examining lots of photos taken by Mr Yip. As he is also an Aussie, some of his photos were taken in Melbourne and Sydney. I was surprised by his photos taken at Federation Square. I realised I didn't fully appreciate the architecture while I was in Melbourne. He also travelled to Tibet and I quite appreciated how he has captured some of the shots there.

Even though it is the same place, or same person (for portraits), different photographers have different perspectives and feelings. This subtle difference has made the photos unique. Unless the shots were composed by "copying" others' ideas, every photos that we see should tell us something about the photographer.
