It's easy to see why Goldie Hawn was nominated for an Academy Award for her performance in this movie; not only does she run the whole gamut of emotions but she does so in a way that draws you in and has you cheering for her. Private Benjamin follows Goldie Hawn's character, Judy Benjamin, as her life falls apart and, thanks to a lying army recruiter, joins the army. What follows is your regular army shtick which, inevitably, ends with her as an elite. However, what is nice about this movie is that it doesn't just stop there, as most movies have a tendency to. Rather, it goes onward to show what happens when she moves from the top, and what happens when she meets another man. It was also refreshing to see a movie where the ending wasn't your normal, everyone lived happily ever after ending, although you do know that Hawn's character is on the right path.
Conclusion: Highly enjoyable, definitely recommended.
