A few bits and bobs of news about various Hornblower actors, below the
Duncan Bell has made a rare onscreen appearance in three episodes of
World Without End playing a man of the cloth called Saul Whitehead. I did catch a glimpse of him in one episode but I confess I wasn't remotely paying attention and only recognised him by his voice :} However it did make me wonder how many of the other Hornblower actors have taken up holy orders. Paul McGann certainly has, and Nicholas Jones (aka Lieutenant Buckland) made a very intimidating Archbishop of York in The Hollow Crown last year, but I'm not sure about any of the others...
Meanwhile the
Guardian have been debating which distinguished thespian should play Thomas Cromwell in the the Royal Shakespeare Company's forthcoming production of Hilary Mantel's Wolf Hall and one of the names put forward was Robert Lindsay who was described as follows:
"A tempting outside bet. Although best known these days for the cosy sitcom My Family, he has a much more dangerous theatrical CV. He is confident playing characters of humble origin, and intriguers, and is no stranger to the RSC, having played an acclaimed Richard III. For Cromwell's Machiavellian tendencies, he could perhaps draw on his experience playing Michael Murray, the Liverpool militant, in Alan Bleasdale's GBH."
And last but by no means least, Jamie Bamber's new Hornblower reunion TNT series Monday Mornings starts airing next week on the 4th of February. Annoyingly, the series seems to have been picked up almost everywhere except the UK. *sulks* TNT have been promoting the new series heavily and the ever wonderful
bamber_News have been following along, so head over there for links, interviews, pics, etc. I think one of my favourite promotional pictures has to be this bill board in Times Square which was tweeted last week by Kerry Norton, who really does deserve to be decorated for services to fandom! Archie's done not badly for himself, eh? ;)
