(Apols for my incoherence in advance. Have been rather slow today.) Excellent pieces, I like how you've tied together TV canon and history! Your style is as always very beautiful, and it was interesting to read about the historic events through the eyes of the characters we love. Really neat!
Thank you very much - sitting here realising how much it needs s few corrections still. Which I will do.And that its a bit patchy- I need to do Styles better for a start. And that I can't count and there are only nine drabbles not ten. Still, since Edward has no idea of what a drabble is and to him rightly belongs the last word this time, that's as it should be !
Awww, and now I have a sorrowful Countenance and a Moistened Eye! *sniffle* How very sad and very touching. This is a really moving coming together of history and tv canon. Beautiful! Poor Ned though, no wonder he was gutted :(
Thank you very much- what the navy gained, fanfiction lost, given Edward's literary passion in that last passage,I think. It was even worse once he got to the Impetueux- the authorities wouldn't back him over the mutineers, and in the end he had only his own sword and a handful of marines to keep order among 500 or so.Which he did, but I think it is hard to imagine how big a toll that took. A very lonely time for poor Ned indeed.:(
Lord Bridport's chiefly - he was very keen to reign Edward in for being too successful, capturing prizes with an almost casual success. Edward had been basically given carte blanche under direct admiralty control and had used it to the full.Bridport wanted him in a squadron under his command, so he would have to tow the line
( ... )
You really have to wonder about the Admiralty sometimes don't you?! Just as well that St Vincent saw sense and was able to do something about the situation.
the old one is scarcely worth drowning, a more contemptible or more miserable animal does not exist.
That really did make me laugh out loud! One clearly did not want to get on the wrong side of Edward's pen! What a wonderful turn of phrase.

Yes,I am hoping to let him enter the caption competition in his own right one of these days when a suitable picture occurs.... He had quite an art with his pen - the sardonic vein in the TV series canon is by no means all that far from the reality in that sense.
I was searching for an old fic I knew I had seen on another site which wsa about the era of the Impetueux etc and I did find it , but this also came up via Google
