"Unless she has some sort of accident, looks like you're stuck with her."

Maybe it was in her genes. Maybe it was the fault of the U.S. ambassador she was named after. Whatever it was, Stark was born with the determined strength of a concrete wall. Even if her body didn't always appreciate that.

As a baseball player, she laid herself out to make catches even if it meant she lost skin and blood along the way. When she moved to the infield it only got worse, diving and rolling and sliding, getting up again even as the blood dripped off her body to the dirt. Everyone would just kind of look at her funny, but to Stark it was just the way to play the game. Leaving everything on the field.

When her father died, she channeled her grief into running the best track heat she had ever run in her life. Never mind that she was so exhausted after it that she doubled over. She set a school record, and had the chance to represent her country. But to her, it was just something that she needed to do.

Becoming a cop and later a federal agent she kept that same mentality. Pain was temporary. Injuries would for the most part heal. So why be afraid to get hurt? The bullet barely missed her face. The shoulder separated. The concussion knocked her unconscious. But it was all worth it because she was doing the right thing. She was protecting innocent lives. She was protecting her partner. The man that she loved. The man who was her world.

He was stuck with her. She wasn't going to let anything get in their way. No matter what.
