108: Precipice

Stark was feeling a little bit of her Catholic background, with a guilt sitting on her shoulders for her behavior of the last few days. She had been so concerned with worrying about his alternate universe counterpart - a man that she wasn't even sure she could get through to - that she felt like she had been neglecting her husband, or at least bothering him, and that made her feel badly. Needing to take her mind off her worries, and give her husband his due, she'd suggested they take a little time for themselves.

There was a new exhibit at the Smithsonian, and she had made dinner reservations at their favorite restaurant on the National Mall. They had used to spend a fair amount of time around the area, before the X-Files had eaten all their free time and they'd just started going home (or, in her case, to the ballpark, if it was baseball season). It wasn't anything overly big, or fancy. But Stark just needed to spend time with her husband, to be reminded that he was there to support her, and that he loved her.

He was right. All she could do was wait, and see what happened, only hoping maybe she could make a difference in the other man's life. If she couldn't? Then it would hurt like hell. But at least she would have the man she knew, the one who had always loved her.

The one whom she was waiting for. "C'mon, honey, unless you want to have dinner in the office tonight..."
