Snow soundproofs everything. That is why I find the outside so agreeable right now. It's silent.

It's in the neighbourhood of -28ºC outside (with the windchill, of course). This is Slave Lake weather. Evil. My patio door has ice all over the inside. John, the Cat and I have retreated to the bedroom, where the heat is up. We only leave for food or warm showers and never venture into the terror that is the icy livingroom. This is my cat staring rapturously up at the air conditioner. To her, it is a large, wall-mounted deity whose specialty is bliss through heat relief. She will continue to sit in this position until I shut it off, at which point she will pass out.

How did Elaina spend the hottest day of the year?

In a boat, on the lake. I love knowing people who have a boat. I do not love having water trapped in my ear. I do love the noise it makes when it finally drains out.

My laptop, which I sent away 10 days ago, is back. They have replaced the LCD. They have not deleted all my stuff. They have updated all my software. It rained today.

Eric came barrelling down Dalhousie (I think he was late for class) and crossed the crosswalk in front of me. He paused in the middle of the street, dropped to one knee and snapped a photo, then quickly ran away.

They may not be as colourful and bright as they are up north, but I only see them flash like strobe lights here.
