Our prime minister, internally known as "Jan Peter Potter" because of his striking resemblance to a certain wizard boy, was on a state visit to Indonesia (a former Dutch colony, gained independence in 1949);

In Jakarta, he talked to a bunch of Indonesian students who expressed their wishes to study in the Netherlands as a part of an exchange programme. One of the students quizzed Balkenende about the legalisation of same-sex marriage and prostituion, and in his answer, our beloved PM made it clear beyond all doubt that as an MP at the time he had "voted against both proposals, but accepts the democratically chosen majority's decision". Excuse me while I once again resort to the three-letter abbrevation starting with a "w" and ending in "tf?!". Why does he feel the need to tell them he was against these resolutions? Is he informing them he voted in favour of spending billions of euro's on JSFs, high ways and military presence in Iraq and Afghanistan? Is this some sort of deluded attempt to reassure his voters (if any) that he's still a good ol' neocon presbyterian with a funny haircut and no charisma?

W.T.F. You are our country's highest representative aside from the queen. What you personally think doesn't matter, JP, you need to stand for what our country's majority stands for. Asshole.

On a side note, parliament expressly prohibited the Minister for Immigration Services from extraditing homosexuals back to Iran.

iran, wtf, netherlands, prostitution, gay
