Strangers in the Night

I had a creepy experience last night. Before I went to bed, I heard some voices. It sounded like two guys were under the carport exchanged words. The cars were still there, undamaged, but I made sure the doors were locked before I went to bed.

At 3:00 am, I awoke and I would swear on my life I saw someone walk past my bedroom door. It looked as if he or she were using the display on a mobile phone to find his/her way through the dark. Then I noticed that our cat wasn't in the room with me. When a new person comes in our house, she either hides from or investigates them. Considering that she normally spends the entire night in my room, I was further convinced we had an intruder. As quickly and quietly as I could, I got out of bed, got dressed, and picked up my boogie-man-beatin'-stick to go investigate. I went throught the house twice, turning on all the lights (except those in my Dad's bedroom) and verifying that they were empty. Once I got to the living room and saw that my laptop was still there and the cat was laying on a foot stool, I felt more at ease. Of course, all the doors and windows were still shut and locked.

Now, I realize I must not have been fully awake. The floor boards in this house make a pronounced creaking sound unless you know exactly where to step, so there's no way anyone could have walked through the house without making any noise. Still, I could have sworn that I saw someone in the hall. I would prefer not to have any home invasions until I'm fully recovered.
