so just about all of you should know i'm a fan of Sherlock Holmes, yes? (say yes)
i was reading last night (because studying is boring) and i came across this passage:
"Then I trust that you at least will honour me with your company," said Sherlock Holmes. "It is always a joy to meet an American, Mr. Moulton, for I am one of those who believe that the folly of a monarch and the blundering of a minister in far-gone years will not prevent our children from being some day citizens of the same world-wide country under a flag which shall be a quartering of the Union Jack with the Stars and Stripes."
--The Adventure of the Noble Bachelor
and then i giggled, closed the book, and started cracking up on my bed. Sherlock Holmes is a USUK fanboy! who'da thunk it? XDit seems pretty common for British people of this time period to think their Empire is hot shit and that it's people are the best and it'll last forever and/or conquer the world (ah, the arrogance of nation numero uno) but not too often do you get the impression that they hold Americans in high esteem (usually it's either apathy or disdain). on the other hand, this might be the only thing i've read that comes from the turn of the 20th century when America was nothing to sneeze at anymore; perhaps i shouldn't lump pre-war 20th with the 19th century.
i, for one, welcome this hypothetical marriage. go fo it, boys XD
in other news, chemistry is going to kill me.
