Chris watched the long handle of a broom move past the bar-top as if it was possessed but she knew her young nephew was the one powering it. If the jerkiness of the handle wasn't enough of a giveaway, the crunch of peanut shells under his feet was a clear sign. He wasn't exactly skilled at sweeping yet.
Then again, she wasn't exactly skilled in anything regarding him yet.
She reached for another cigarette and stopped as she saw a flash of blue light from the other side of the counter. She cautiously leaned over to find out what happened, wondering exactly how she had earned the 'worst foster mother of the year' award today. What she saw was a smiling little boy kneeling on the ground in crushed bar peanuts. He had drawn a circle on the floor with his sidewalk chalk and used alchemy to turn the garbage peanut shells into....a toy?
Roy picked up the peanut horse and reached up on his toes to set it on the bar. “Thank you for taking care of me Aunt Chris.”
She heard him go back to sweeping, more material for his creations. He was frustrated at being unable to sweep up all the trash so he pushed it into a transmutation circle and got rid of it a different way. What a resourceful kid. Just like his father. “Roy-Boy, why don't you take a break and we'll go to the bookstore so you can pick out something to read?”
