there have been some awkward coincidences in the last two days, so i will post of them. on wednesday after my 830 (too early) final, i decided to go down to the uw outdoor crag. armed with hand warmers and a steely determination, i hashed out some problems. a mixture of groginess and cold swept over me, forcing an early retirement. after arriving at home and finishing off a pot of coffee i had brewed earlier in the morning, i warmed up while watching tom & jerry (what a classic) and playing my beloved computer games. several hours later, i was struck with a nagging case of cabin of fever. seeing as the sun was still out, i departed yet again for the crag. on my way down, i had noticed that, while checking the time on my cell phone, i had faultily placed the phone in the holster. worrying that the phone might pop out while riding, i reached down to secure the velcro strap with the hidden flap. to my surprise, the phone flew from it's place, hopping twice and coming to a gentle stop...submerged in a puddle. quickly i circled around to rescue the phone. while it was dripping wet, it did seem to be in working order. unfortunately, about 15 seconds later, the screen flickered and then died. dismayed, i returned home to nap.
this morning, before my christmas shopping, i visited the at&t wireless store. in that store, i was helpfully served by one travis calhoun, whom i had not seen for quite awhile. it seems as though my account could not be migrated or altered without the consent of heidi taft, the woman in charge of corporate accounts. you see, my father gets a discount from his work place, my plan is dirt cheap. anyway, i was to receive a loaner phone and travis emerged from the backroom with a bulky red nokia. the phone did not work very well and so i got a blue one instead. the one just about everybody had around two years ago. it wouldn't fit in the cell phone holster on my bag, so i stuffed it in my pocket.
after finishing my shopping, i returned to my car. typically, i unlock the driver door first and then place whatever else i am carrying on the passenger side. however, since i was carrying so much shit, i instead went straight to the passenger side. having placed all the goods inside, i tossed my keys onto the driver seat. now, i am usually pretty anal about my keys, and check to make sure they are sitting in my jacket pocket before locking the door. today, i was not wearing my jacket, i knew it would get warm browsing store to store. the jacket was sitting on the driver seat. i swept my elbow over the lock and placed a hand on the door. something didn't feel quite right, but i quickly dismissed it. shutting the door gently as not to squash any presents, i immediately realized what was wrong. foolishly, i attempted to pry the door open. i was not very surprised when the door did not budge, that is why door locks are put on doors. thinking it over, i walked to the redmond fire&police departments community outreach station located across from the mariott. there, they redirected me to the security center where a nice man had assorted wires and slim-jims. while walking to my car, he told me that he had a decent success rate with toyota trucks, but was not guaranteeing anything. he tried both doors for awhile, and we joked about the "safe-guard antitheft" sticker on the driver side window actually meaning something. this is when he recommended calling someone that might have AAA or something. luckily, the cell phone was in my pocket, and not in my bag which was sitting on passenger seat. i wasn't sure if i had a spare at my parent's house or not, but when i had called about 30 minutes earlier, nobody was home. my mother had been delivering baked goods to a potlock at my father's workplace. i tried calling again, 'lo and behold, my mother was home and she knew where the spare was. so here i am typing this story.
happy holidays!
