[Video] 19 Pies Flying // A quiet moment of grateful.

Oct 24, 2010 16:23

[Gyatso is slowly running his hand down the length of what looks like a staff, inspecting every inch of it. He uses his hands--no bending, not with his chip in--to open the glider fully to inspect the wings. It's an Air Nomad Glider, for the relatively few in the know.

Eventually, he looks back to the communicator and smiles.Perhaps it is time ( Read more... )

I've never seen one that large before. It doesn't seem like it could go very far.

[Will thinks you are talking about this.]

It goes further than you think, especially with an Airbender at the helm.

An airbender, sir?

An Airbender is someone that is capable of controlling the air currents around them and bending them to their will.

[Will quiets suddenly and looks very solemn.]

I see. And how is this done?

[That does startle Gyatso a little, but he does continue on.]

Through a special form of martial arts. Perhaps I could demonstrate what it looks like, although my chip still remains?

Martial Arts? How very curious. [And not quite like anything he had knowledge of. To control the elements without the old speech? That was strange indeed.]

I should like to see that some time, I think.

When I get my chip out, I will be glad to show you.

[A moment's thought.]

... Is air controlled in your world in a different fashion, young one?

[Will is silent for a long moment, uncertain what to say. It had been so simple in his own world. So easy to tell who belonged to the world of magic and who was a human unable to handle the greater truth of the world. But here... without the senses of an Old One and with so many with unusual abilities...

He didn't know what to do. Now, more than ever, Will longed to consult with his master.

Still, one with more than human abilities of his own might be able to handle the truths of an Old One.]

I have heard stories of such.

With spells of some sort? There are those here that use them, I believe. Although I have heard of using some sort of energy to channel elements as well.

[Gyatso is one of those could hand it, truth be told. Not many humans have been to the Spirit World, but this one has. He's seen plenty of fantastic things in his life.

... not that Will would know any of this.]

[Will replies dreamily, in an almost sing song tone.]

I have heard stories, about the Old Ones. It was said they could ride on the wind and make fire out of nothing. They spoke to the stars and knew the mysteries of the planets and all the elements were theirs to command. Half-forgotten they are now, as all such things must be.

These Old Ones sound similar to the benders of my world, perhaps even the ones that were the original source of bending. Not the original teachers, like the Sky Bison who taught my people, but possibly those that taught them. Spirits of a nature?

They could have been spirits, perhaps. Or men gifted with a great burden. Perhaps they were even magical creatures. Or perhaps it is merely a story to tell children, with a grain of truth hidden inside. As such stories often have.

Myths are wonderful, in that way. You do not know what is fact and what is fiction, and that is where the excitement is--in the possibilities!

Quite marvelous, really. [Will agrees calmly.]

And they are certainly fun to listen to and to tell.
