Intercom

author's note: i got the idea for this from someone on my main journal friends list. she said she was entertaining hopeless romantic notions that her boyfriend would come on the intercom in her highschool and say, "hi, i'm Christine Farris's boyfriend. i just wanted to ask her to marry me. so, Christine, will you marry me?" and then she would see him outside the window with a big bunch of flowers. they're in an LDR, btw. anyway, i thought it was uber-cute, so i'm gonna write about it. yes, i'm making it up as i go :p a lot of it is based on things she's said in journal entries, but i don't know what she daydreams about during class, or even if she does :p

Christine blinked slowly and shifted her weight to the other side, laying her head on her arm, idly listening to the lecture. She could not WAIT to get out of school. Only a sophomore, she had developed a bad case of Senioritis, attributed to the stress of high school and the stress that comes with being in a long-distance relationship. She had been with Shaun, a 19-year old from England, for two years now, and in two years, Shaun would be moving to America, to live with her. She would go to nursing school and become an RN within two years, and they would begin their lives together. Christine had even gotten a promise from an elderly family friend that she could live in their basement when she graduated. It had a little balcony and was big enough for her and Shaun. She even started to fantasize about how she would decorate it.

Christine fantasized about many things. She liked to spend time thinking about her wedding. Shaun hadn't proposed yet, but is a little odd for someone to propose to a 16-year-old. However, Christine knew it was only a matter of time. She had already decided what wedding dress she wanted, and had narrowed it down to a couple choices for bridesmaids' gowns. While she had visited Shaun for a month at a time, she fantasized about living with him, even though his tastes, still in their highschool boy forms, heavily clashed with hers. She daydreamed about him proposing to her. She didn't want something quiet, like a proposal in a candelit restaurant. It was romantic, sure, but she would rather the entire restaurant be involved. Or would like him to ask her in the middle of the street, like that diamond jewelry commercial where the guy runs out and says, "I LOVE THIS WOMAN!" Most people would find that quite embarrasing; Christine found it romantic.

Her mind drifted to their next visit. She didn't know exactly when it would be, but she hoped it would be soon. She tried not to think about visits after that...as much as she enjoyed being with him, she wanted the visits to stop, she wanted to stay with him forever.

Her thoughts were abrubtly redirected as the PA system came on, and the principal started to address the entire school. "I apologize for the interruption, but there is an important announcement that must be made." Christine sat up, a little annoyed by the interruption, but listened anyway. She chuckled as there was a little fumbling before the next voice came on.

"Hi," was all she heard before her heart began to pound in her chest. "I'm Christine Farris's boyfriend." She immediately tensed up, trying to control the urge to jump from her seat. "I just wanted to ask her a question." Her hands started to shake slightly, her eyes growing wider and staring at the window in the door. "Christine, will you marry me?"

Christine no longer had control over her own body. She sprinted out of the room before the class could start cheering. She ran down the hall, stopping immediately when she saw him. He simply stood there, with a large grin on his face and a bouquet of roses in his hands. They were tied together with ribbon, and a small, glittering diamond ring hung from them. Her surprise turned into an expression of pure joy as she ran to him, leaping into his arms.
