I had a good birthday on Monday. Stayed at home all day, opened presents (mostly books and cds, some other cool things too) ate yummy food my brother made me (including French toast, chilaquiles, and cake!) - I helped a bit with one part of the cooking, which is cool cause I love to cook. I was really happy that it snowed on my birthday as I adore snowy weather. I listened to music, had my regular Monday therapy session, got a few phone calls, played my DS, watched Al Diablo Con Los Guapos, went online for a bit too. It was nice.
Also, quickly wanted to comment on tonight's (meaning Tuesday) American Idol.
I thought that several of the guys did better this week than last. A couple of other guys seemed sick, like maybe they caught whatever several of the girls had last week. It's sort of strange that they've gone straight into the the theme weeks. I miss the weeks that are more open ended at the start of the top 24 shows. Those gave me a better feeling about the personalities and tastes of the contestants, than what they've been doing this year. Oh well. It seems that the themes are maybe going to go up through the decades until we have this year's top 12: last week was the 60s, now it's the 70s, next week I'm betting will be 80s themed, and then there should be 90s week. They'll have it down to the top 12 the week after that, right?
I finished reading Julie's books - the latest historical girl in the American Girl collection. I've been reading American Girl books since I was 5 (well, I had them read to me back then...)and I still love them. Julie's stories are set in the mid 70s, making her the most recent of the historical dolls, so it's interesting having more modern pop culture references and so fort -like the Fonz from Happy Days, his being mentioned in the books, that cracked me up. I also finished reading Minor Characters by Joyce Johnson, which I may have mentioned in here before. Not sure. Anyway, it's a memoir by one of the authors from the Beat Generation. Very nicely written, interesting, and also sad at times. Besides talking about the Beat Generation, it also deals with feminist issues and issues of growing up, being in your 20s, the pressures of society, parents, and trying to figure out what you want and how to go after it. It's really good.
