I just got back from The Remus Lupins concert at the Oak Park Library and I had a really nice time.
I got to the library about half an hour early and waited around outside the room where the concert would be. There were two girls ahead of me in line, and then two more arrived - one in a Gryffindor tie and one in a Slytherin tie, and they asked us if we'd heard about the Terminus convention and then they gave us stickers about it. We all talked for a little while, and then a librarian came out of the room and told us that Alex (aka Remus Lupin) wasn't quite ready yet, but said that we could come inside and wait if we would like to. Alex popped out of the doors and said hello as he went to get changed, and we went inside.
I talked a bit to the girl next to me, we discussed quidditch and Mugglecast and Pottercast, was well as Terminus. Then, a confused woman who asked the girl next to me if this was the room for some sort of book club she was a member of, the girl explained that it was not, and told her about the Remus Lupins concert. The woman thought that we all looked a bit young for her book club xD Then the librarian/host made an announcement that this was not the room that was showing the French movie either, lol. The librarian/host seemed cool, and she seemed to be honestly excited about the concert and about wizard rock in general, which was nice.
Alex took then took the stage in his Gryffindor uniform (except with jeans rather than black pants)and told us to come up into the front and either sit on the floor near the stage or stand around and dance. A bunch of us came up and opted to stand around and dance. This was a solo acoustic set, btw. Alex told us that the rest of his band went home to put up Halloween decorations ^.^ He opened with the song, "The Weasleys". I think the next song was about Snape.
I'm not totally sure what the order of the rest of the songs was, but I do know that he played:
"Remember Cedric" (he warned us that this was a sad song), "Wizard Rock", "Teenage Werewolf", "The Ballad of Luna and Neville", "Alone on Valentine's Day" (before which he said it was a song about a girl he used to like), "Maybe Tomorrow" (which he introduced as an older song about how Ron and Hermione should just get together) a song about James and Lily, a new song about Dumbledore (which he introduced as being a song about someone that he respects and admires). There were several more new songs as well, all of which were really good.
Alex talked about Terminus a lot and asked if anyone was going. He high recommends it and said that it's really a great deal as its $140 dollars for five days filled with Harry Potter stuff including a 25 band Wrock concert.
He mentioned the big wrock fest that he had just been at and said that in comparison it was really quite at tonight's concert, so he had us all scream at the top of our lungs on the count of three XD
Halloween was another subject that Alex talked about, saying that he, Remus, had the best Halloween costume he was going to be a "6 foot tall puppy dog" (aww), and he said that the only thing cooler than that was a robot costume made out of cardboard, lol. Later, he asked if anyone in the audience had an awesome Halloween costume, and I (dressed as Hufflepuff student Tonks, which is my Halloween costume) raised my hand, and he asked what my costume was going to be, and I replied, "Tonks", and then Alex said "Tonks is pretty awesome - and she can be whatever she wants to be; she could be a duck!" Then he asked if anyone else had an awesome Halloween costume. This one girl told him she was going to be someone from a masquerade, and Alex said, "so far Tonks is winning," :D two girls said they were going to be Hermione, and one said she was going to be Ginny.
I think it was after that that Alex played the song, "The Order", in which Tonks is the first person mentioned, which was cool ^.^ and somewhere around there Alex played "the original, dance version" of "Loosen Your Tie".
The equipment - the speaker and Alex's guitar - went a little wonky at times, and he kept on apologizing for that. He told us that he was still recovering from the full moon (another aww).
Later on in the show some guy in the back yelled out "introduce the band!" to which Alex said something along the lines of, "this is the speaker - he's mad at me. We got into a fight and he wants to break up and take the guitar with him. And I'm Remus Lupin."
The last song that Alex played was "Looking for Trouble", and it was cool how when it got to the chorus, several of the girls in the crowd spontaneously started singing the "ba da da" background vocal parts. It sounded really good! And when Alex got to the part "I don't know who R.A.B. is... do you?" this one girl yelled out sarcastically, "yeah!" and then another girl's cell phone started ringing and Alex sang along to it, and then said as he went back into the song, "Obviously it's Regulas!" It was amusing.
After the show Alex was selling CDs and t-shirts, so I got into the line and bought one of his new CDs, "I Was a Teenager Werewolf", and a blueish t-shirt (which made me think of little Teddy). I asked him about when he was coming back here, and he told me about a couple of upcoming shows. Then I asked if I could please have a picture with him, and he said yes, stepped around the table, put his arm around me, and went "yay! Lupin and Tonks!" XD after the picture was taken he apologized for being sweaty (which I totally didn't think he was), and I thanked him again. He seems like a sweet guy.
Anyhow, it was a great show and I highly recommend going to see The Remus Lupins if you have the chance!
