So yeah, I've got a new iPod.
And I decided to name it something indestructable, something lasting, something that will hopefully mean it will spring back from any and all damage. So I have named my new iPod.....THE CHEERLEADER.
Full name: The Cheerleader from Heroes. Obvious thing would be to call it Claire Bennet, but that's a tad odd when I have a friend with a somewhat similar name.
Okay, so something new I've found recently, The Tick. Not the comic, nor the cartoon my brother watched when I was younger, but a live action tv show that was cancelled after nine episodes. The whole series is on youtube in a totally legal way and it's pretty funny in a stupid crazy way. The creator Ben Edlund has co-produced shows like Angel, Firefly and Supernatural, and wrote epsodes for all three, including the Firefly episodes "Trash" and "Jaynetown". So the guy is a Joss Wedon protege and even got a special thanks in the Dr. Horrible credits.
All the casting in the show is great. Patrick Warburton (who you would probably recognise by voice if not by name or face) plays the possibly insane superhero quite well (although I say "possibly" when in one episode he talks to toilets) particularly in a scene in the pilot where he "saves" a bus station from a rogue coffee machine and proclaims his victory with "java devil, you are now my bitch", and the rest of the show is full of bizzare OTT superhero speeches like that from him. David Burke (who I swear I've seen somewhere before but I have no idea where) is great as the Tick's long-suffering sidekick Arthur, who has no codename because he never got round to thinking of one, and Nestor Carbonell (Richard from LOST) as a really bad Hispanic Batman rip-off called Batmanuel is pretty funny. He also has one of my favourite lines from the show, "another urban myth dispelled, ninjas do not bounce".
So it's pretty short and not brilliant obviously, but it gave me a couple of giggles, especially the fact that since they had no budget for fight scenes this is a superhero show without much in the way of superheroics. And there are also cameos from Christopher Lloyd and Ron Perlman who plays a fire based superhero, always fun. Like I said I saw some of the cartoon when I was younger so I was vaguely familiar, but was not expecting something this dumb to be as funny as it is.
In other news there is of course new Doctor Who. I liked it. I think that Matt Smith has what it takes. I've summed it up as that Doctor 10 was like an overgrown student and Doctor 11 is your favourite university professor in the body of your best mate.
However I think that I'm possibly the only person who likes the new theme and titles. I think the intro has a nice stirring build up before the full theme kicks in. Also the stormy titles is a nice fit for "The Oncoming Storm". And I like the logo turning into the TARDIS. Some people have said it's kinda children's tv, but I don't get it.
I would normally go into more depth about what I thought about the first episode, but it is late and I am sleepy.
Peace out.
