For Niki

Simply because you requested it, and I'm always happy to help, here's an update - my first in eight weeks or something.

Work is an absolute joy in most ways. I love my colleagues, who are some of the funniest and most charming people I've had the pleasure of meeting. I get to write almost every day, I get to work on lots of different projects, I get involved in some design type work and, generally, have an absolute blast. It's crazy to think I paid for something I find so pleasant to do each day. And we're going go-karting as a team on Thursday. Magic.

I write for an audience of nearly 150,000 people. I help them understand what's happening in the bank and what's going to happen to them. Quite humbling when I think about what I went through in the last year and how great it would have been for some clarity about it.

Then there's the opportunity to write for the Group magazine. It's not often the most thrilling stuff, but it's all portfolio worthy and Lisa's won the CiB Best Editor Award and the Best Magazine award in the last couple of years. I have a future plan, but it's dependent on finance. I'm not sure the journalism I'd be interested in pursuing would sustain me and my mortgage, but it's worth looking into.

The next couple of months will show if I can take over the mortgage for the flat on my own. Here's hoping. Thanks, employer of note!

Music is great, despite my continued laziness at actually finishing anything. Misguided Souls is complete, now at 12 tracks. I'm enjoying listening to it, which is a good sign. It's all mastered and ready for production. I'm just about to arrange to sell it on iTunes but I'm thinking I should now book some gigs. Let's see if procrastination gets in the way first.

On top of that, I'm taking part in the February Album Writing Month challenge. It's like NanoWrimo for song writing (which is how I heard about it). 14 songs in 28 days is the goal, and I've got a few little ideas written down to be developed. The challenge will be to try and record it as quickly as possible after. I fully expect the results to be 50-50, but hey - five to seven new songs would be great, and might give me a little bit of direction for what to do next.

Kim is also great. I'm not comfortable with talking about her online really, especially as she doesn't like it, but it's all good.

In between all that I've found time to see films, watch two seasons of Dexter, listen to (new to me) music, play more guitar than I've been able to in a while (god bless the Fender Champ 600 and it's amazing sound at low volumes) and give the Xbox some love. Mass Effect 2 is out on Friday - hurrah!
