Okay... I've been having some sort of throath infection for the past couple of days which means that I am slowly losing my voice (although it does feel as though I'm slowly getting better again). Following the advice of the cook in the Turkish deli in town (Ana's Kuzin) I made something with lots of spicy chillies and ginger for dinner. According to the lady the spicy food will help the whole infecion thing go down just that bit faster (and after two evenings of spicy food it seems to be working!).
Tonight dinner consisted of Genuine Howondaland Curry and Mrs Colon's Genyooin Klatchian Curry, both from Nanny Ogg's Cookbook. I had the second (veggie) curry already prepared but for the other one I needed to get some Lombok chillies which the local supermarket didn't have. Instead the boy at the vegetable counter adviced me to use Madam Jeanettes ("oh, just use those as a substitute, the same amount will be fine")...
Not a good idea.
I still have one nostril feeling as though it is on fire from where I touched it while cutting the chillies. And then there was the moment where I tasted a tiny piece to see how much I should add... GOOD THING I DID THAT! I'm amazed I didn't scorch the kitchenwall when I spit it out it was so goddamn hot!!
The curry was very good though :)
Time for bed now! Expect an update tomorrow on what I thought of The Wiz, the new musical production in town (J is right, Joop needs a dramaturg pronto!) and my trip to the glass industry in Leerdam.
Love,
Nine
