Great White North - Day 2

Jul 14, 2008 00:30

So first thing this morning we went to the buffet for breakfast...not bad, all that you can expect from a buffet.

We then signed up for the Murder Mystery dinner at 9am, we were 54-55 in line at 8:30, glad we went early. That dinner will be tomorrow evening, should be fun!

Then off to the Spa for our massages - how can a 90 pound woman manipulate your body so well. Egg got the cute girl from South Africa, but I got the hot Asian one!!!!  Massage coma is very nice. I am happy to report that my back pain is gone, and I have been pain free all day YEAH! It has been months. Egg did not fall asleep until after the massage this time; when we were relaxing and waiting for the therapists to return.

OOOH - then the art auction! First time going to an auction period much less art. It was fun and educational. We bought a small painting at the auction today that will fit nicely in the living room.  I am in love with Chagall, and Chen (who was named the current Olympic artist). If all goes well I will be bringing home a limited addition with artist hand embellishments of the Olympic painting.  Keep your fingers crossed.  Egg is in love with a Russian abstract artist named Anatoly Krezneshki (???) - beautiful jesters and vibrant dramatic colors. Before the fall of Communism, he was an architect, so he painted building and cityscapes. He prefers his new subject, we will learn about his techniques tomorrow.    It is quite impressive to see Picasso, Rembrandt, Chagall, and Dali among many others on a cruise ship - an unexpected surprise.

I went to a "How to shop Alaska" seminar, and Egg went to a seminar on "Digital photography". I will hopefully be able to get lots of free stuff tomorrow in town. Apparently, Alaska is the place to buy jewelry. We port in Ketchikan for about 7 hours. We are going on a totem and city tour excursion, and a lumberjack show MMMMMM....big burly men in flannel. We should have a bit of time for shopping inbetween.   .

Dinner was a good bottle of German Reisling, and lobster...only a half tail. What do you expect with no cover charge resturant? It was well portioned with everything served, we did not leave hungry.  One of the best creme brulee I've had in a long time; with a layer of chocolate genache.

The sun set at 10:30 this evening - GORGEOUS!!!  We have pictures - mostly gold and pinks.  Wish you were here!!!

(BTW - got sea sick today - on meds - ALL better...)

alaska, vacation, cruise
