Garden Update...

Historic moment - had my first harvest this weekend ---  two zucchinis and 5 green beans. Vegetables never tasted so good!  Thanks to the hubby's wonderful cooking skills we had our first home grown meal from the lower yard.

We started with cantaloupe, green beans, zucchini, cucumber, crookneck squash, tomatoes, and seedlings of carrots, beets and lettuce.  The cantaloupe never really adapted to its new home, I replaced the original plant and the new one is doing very well. I planted three crooknecks and finally pulled all but one as one plant will supply us with more than enough. The cucumber, and one tomato plant did not survive not replaced. And the seedlings were doing well but in hot spell we had all died in the greenhouse - I will try them again next year. The tomato plants are over 4 feet tall and full of flowers, we will have more red and yellow pear tomatoes than we will be able to deal with especially since I don't eat tomatoes - any takers when Egg gets his fill?  I have yet to eat one of the strawberries, I am not as fast as the birds unfortunately. I have finally wrapped the plant in a net so I may yet feast on the juicy red goodness myself.
