The Case of the Vanishing Mud-Prints

Jan 30, 2007 22:01

So, last night after work I trudged home in the snowy slush, kicked my shoes off, and sat down at the computer.  After working for a while, I got up and walked into the hallway, only to be met with a most unsettling sight.  There, in the middle of my tile hallway, began a trail of muddy, slushy footprints.  Strange, I thought, I didn't think I'd walked through mud.  I peered down the hallway to the front door, but they didn't start there.  No, they started right smack dab in the middle of my hallway.  Very strange.  I followed them into the bathroom, where they morphed into, not footprints, but streaky blobs of muddy slush.  And, instead of getting less pronounced, like footprints typically do as you walk and the mud wipes off, the prints were the muddyest right in the middle of the trail.  It looked like some strange thing had materialized in the middle of my hallway, walked into the bathroom, morphed into a blob with circular, streaky feet, and then dematerialized out of my apartment.  After peering at the evidence for a while, I went into the bedroom to peer at the bottoms of my shoes.  No mud on them.  Completely dry.  So, so weird.

So basically, I don't really have an explanation for this phenomenon.  Maybe the trail did start at my front door, and I walked over it in my socks and wiped it off or something... I don't really think so, but...makes more sense than morphing blobs with circular streaky muddy feet materializing and disappearing from my apartment.

(Sings: do do do do, do do do do....)
