you can play hot cold game no matter what type of chocobo you have... and the items you can find are all the same for everyone. The only difference it plays into the hot/cold game is if owners taught their chocobo the ability "Treasure finder" which helps in finding the location of the crate (though once you get the hang of it.. it's not necessary) Each chocobo can be taught a max of 2 abilities.. so like for my chocobo.. I'm planning on raising it to become a digger (I dig as a craft/fun outside of hot/cold game) so I'm gearing it up for treasure finder and bore... since some items can only be dug up in zones with certain abilities... followed by another chocobo after I finish this one with treasure finder and burrow so I can have both types of diggers.
Chocobos raised for racing though will do better in the chocobo races to win chocobucks(I also sorta raised one for that..) which you can trade in for items such as chocobo dyes, chocobo foods, etc.. which can then be sold.
I'm not too craaazy with the whole.. OOOH.. GOTTA MAX OUT THE STATS!!!.. so none of my chocobos are insanely high stat-wise.. but they are all useful in one way or another.. I'm addicted.. what can I say? :3
