At the offset of this entry I must admit something rather terrible. I, Erin "frugal is my middle name" S____ did something rather unfrugal and totally crazy this past weekend. I bought a mandolin!!! I have been learning mandolin since May, using one my Mom inherited from her grandmother's sister who was a touring mandolin player in Kansas. Seeing as that particular instrument is sort of family heirloomesque, I was not really comfortable bringing it between dry, dry Alberta and ultra-humid London Ontario, especially since older mandolins tend to have thinner, pieced together walls which are prone to cracking. As a result, I had been pricing them out at pawn shops, and used instrument stores. Fast forward to Saturday, when I stopped (mostly out of curiousity) at the store above which I take my lessons, and asked the owner (a kind, yet forgetful 80 year old man, who is sort of a pushy salesperson) about buying one. Basically, I didn't expect to leave with a mandolin on Saturday, but I did... and it was actually a better price than anywhere else that I'd looked at or phoned.
Aside from mandolining it up, I have been practicing flute somewhat close to enough, running, and doing crafts with my Mommy (we are making awesome beaded necklaces) ... as per normal. I also seem to spend a large portion of my time booking ultrasounds...funny thing. Actually, on that whole subject, why is my job slowly turning into what seems to be a never-ending episode of "The Office"? There was a particular incident this week which basically confirmed that I work beside Dwight Schrute.
