There are studies about Vitamin C and Zinc helping with the common cold, though some are inconclusive. But in the world of Prince of Tennis where people play through injuries to the extremes, perhaps some disbelief can be suspended.

Achoo.

Ryuzaki Sakuno sighed as she watched Ryoma-kun warm up by hitting a tennis ball against the wall, hitting the tennis ball every time even if he had to cough every so often.

Achoo.

Even Ryoma-kun’s coughs were dignified. Unfortunately for Ryoma-kun, dignified or not, they were still coughs. Coughs meant a cold.

Ryuzaki Sumire wagged her finger at the Tennis Prince. “I told you and Fuji to stop playing when it started raining yesterday. Now look at you. Should I change the lineup for Yamabuki?”

“Of course not,” grunted Echizen Ryoma.

Her grandmother sighed. “Well, go home for today and we’ll see how you do tomorrow.”

“Fine,” Ryoma said, catching the tennis ball and walking off to the clubhouse.

Ryuzaki Sakuno sighed. She knew that even if Ryoma-kun was running a fever he would play. It was only the next natural step from playing with only one eye as he did with Fudomine.

She wondered if she could do anything for him.

“40% of colds are improved with intake of Vitamin C. 30% of colds are improved with intake of Zinc.”

Sakuno jumped.

“100% improvement with my Super Improved Power Up Inui Juice,” the Data Man said as he handed Sakuno a thermos filled with something… green.

Well, at least she could try finding some Zinc and Vitamin C tablets, maybe make some soup. Inui-senpai’s juice, though…

Thankfully her grandmother hadn’t given her much of a hard time about her bringing some things for Ryoma-kun’s health, though Ryuzaki Sumire had given Inui-senpai’s juice a dubious look as the two made their way to Ryoma-kun’s house.

Ryoma-kun’s cousin received the medicines, the juice and the soup, promising to make Ryoma take them once he woke up from his nap. Apparently Ryoma-kun’s father had knocked him out ‘accidentally’ with a dictionary because Ryoma-kun had insisted on practicing when he came home.

Ryuzaki Sakuno hoped that Ryoma-kun would be all right.

The next day was the day before the match with Yamabuki. Tomo-chan had worried about Ryoma-kun all last night.

Ryoma-kun looked better, at least. Sakuno wondered which of the four had worked. She wondered if she should ask him.

At afternoon practice, the regulars remarked on how much better Ryoma-kun was.

“Like he willed himself to get well,” said Momo-senpai.

“If it’s tennis, Echizen will be fine,” said Taka-san.

“Ochibi is so strong, even if he is recovering!” said Eiji.

Tezuka-senpai grunted.

Fuji-senpai was cheerful. “Maybe someone helped him get better?” Sakuno stiffened.

“What, like he saw a doctor?”

“Well, he could have, Horio-kun” said Katsuo-kun cheerfully.

Ryuzaki Sakuno relaxed as they all started talking about their stories with doctors.  She glanced back at the Tennis Prince before preparing to go to her classroom for clean up duty.

Whatever worked, she was glad the Tennis Prince was looking much better than yesterday.

She finished her work for the day and was about to start the diary with her partner, one of the boys from her class.

“Ano, Ryuzaki-san, while you were in the bathroom, this appeared next to your bag.”

She blinked at the Ponta can that was held in front of her.

“You didn’t see the person, Aki-kun?”

He looked sheepishly at her. “No, I was cleaning the erasers at the time. I only heard the closing of the door, that’s all.”

She smiled. She had a feeling she knew who had come, catching sight of a white tennis-cap wearing boy just leaving the school gates.

Inui Sadaharu scribbled in his notebook, “100% chance Echizen left a Ponta for Ryuzaki to thank her for what she brought to him yesterday. But what is the percent chance that my juice could have cured Echizen’s cold over the Vitamin C and Zinc tablets and the soup? Iie data.”

He had to find out. If it was his juice that worked…

Maybe their next training session should be in the rain, Inui calculated, for more test subjects. That was a good thought.
