Random musings - I have had the most fantastic music year.
I got to see AC/DC twice when I had started to lose hope of ever seeing them again and they RAWKED. AC/DC, for those of you that don't know, are my favourite band by several miles and seeing them all up on stage and clearly enjoying the hell out of themselves had me smiling for days after.
I saw Muse in Melbourne with good friend including the one who introduced me to Muse. I find them a bit over-produced live - I love those informal moments of sillyness at gigs - but there is no doubting they do an amazing gig.
I saw Metallica perform what has easily been their best live show I've seen (check out the show on
Setlist.fm, a wiki where fans list the songs played and then those songs get linked to videos in a playlist so you can sit happily at work, browsing through previous concerts) with an amazingly energized and playful band acting up. They performed their Bob Seger cover, Turn the Page, which for various reasons is one of my favourites of theirs and hearing it live was a treat I really hadn't been expecting.
And then there was last week, when I won a pass to the Foo Fighters performing Wasting Light on the Harbour - a private gig for 300 people, where they covered 38 songs and over 3 hours of material - the longest gig they have ever done. (It will be broadcast online on Triple M on Sat morning, Aus time, and you can hear it
here.) It was a simply amazing show from a band who were delighted to be performing and I reckon their new album is going to be a stormer.
And you know what all that awesome music has made me want to do? Go to more concerts. :D 2012 is going to be the year of the moshpit. Oh yeah.
