This time 5 years ago, I arrived at Sydney airport. I was jetlagged and exhausted from working the previous month in retail. It felt face-meltingly hot, which I put down to me being a wuss, until I found out that it was 44 degrees Centigrade and one of the hottest days Sydney had experienced in several years, so I was allowed to find it warm.
That was a relief.
Since then, I have lived Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth and Wagga Wagga. I have worked with universities, charities, investment bankers, and a travelling funfair. I've sailed the Whitsundays, camped on Fraser, fed a quokka on Rottnest and clubbed with the best of them in every capital city of each state. I've nearly poked a redback spider, driven through a bushfire and survived the Sydney New Years Eve crowds. Twice. I've met some awesome new mates, and had a chance to show a lot of awesome people around my adopted country. I've been confused and occasionally sunburned, but never bored.
Australia. Here's looking at you, kid.
