Which is better? Future retro or retro future? The visions the past had of what will be are often so appealing but at the same time I can only imagine what the future will make of what we have done.
There are many things I miss about the views people had of the future in the past. The views of how somehow the things they didnt have but wanted would come to be and things would somehow better rather than worsen. That seems to be lost now. The only imagined futures you see anymore are star * and such things. Where did the fantasy go? Have we all finally caught on to the downward spiral that is the faliing race of humanity? Is our ability to dream outweighed by the real world being so harsh and undeniable or are we all jsut so dumb/drugged/duped that we are content to give up our dreams and settle for the homogenous mediocrity, I really hope its just the american thing and that I am lacking exposure and elsewhere in the world things are not like this.
But if somehow, however that may be, we actually do manage to create a decent future... I have to ponder what they will come up with out of us. Our reality shows and other senseless mass media will hopefully be abandoned in favor of our much better commercials. I guess there is a bit to be thankful for in the world of film and people keep telling me there is some good modern lit. Ill believe that when I see it though. Style wise I dont really know what it is that makes us unique right now so I cant imagine how it will be over emphasized and misused. I think this is a sort of boring time. Its a shame too cause the 20's were good the 30's terrible 40's not bad except the war thing, 50s sucky, the 60's exciting, 70's disco, the 80s pretty okay I guess, 90s blah. I was really hoping maybe 00's would offer something neat. Oh well I guess the sand is always green in some other part of the hour glass or some shit.
