moireach was griping the other night about academic types who may well be brilliant scientists, but are utterly useless when it comes to basic organizational skills. She cited, by way of example, Profs in her department who leave important and highly sensitive documents in airport bathrooms and such. And I know she didn't specifically mean to include me in that special club of twits, but she ought to have. In all the careful planning for my research trip to Boston and this side jaunt up to Montreal for a friend's wedding, it somehow never occurred to me that driving to Montreal would involve crossing the US/Canada border*. So I didn't bother to bring my passport or my visa. And I only realized about an hour south of the border that perhaps this was going to be a problem. Cause other than my passport and birth certificate, I don't have any Canadian ID anymore. My driver's license says I live in Boston. So I got across the Canadian border by pretending I was an American. Eeep. I feel so seditious.
And to get back, I'm having my dog sitter Fedex me my documents here in Montreal. I really, really hope they arrive tomorrow, or I'll be staying longer than planned.
The moral of the story - I should not be let out of my house without a minder.
* I have, of course, driven from Boston to Montreal a dozen times or more over the years. There was a big honkin international border in the way EVERY TIME.
