I woke up on the last ring of the phone, looking around the room I was in. It took me a minute to realize yes we are indeed in Buffy's house. Then that lead to Buffy is now a vampire and Wesley, Faith, Xander and I were left to deal with the aftermath. Angelus. I brought my hand to my head and the weight of the cast also brought to my attention I had broken my hand when I punched a wall in frustration. I groaned and cradled my arm to my chest, rolling out of bed. I walked downstairs to the answering machine. Faith. I furrowed my brows when she said where she was and with whom. Wesley in the hospital, everything is five by five, how very Faith. I rolled my eyes and looked around, the house was dark and quiet, I wasn't sure where Xander was or Anya for that matter. I moved to the living room and flipped on the lights, same in the dining room and kitchen. I pulled open the fridge and pulled out some potato salad and some sandwich stuff, not much else in there.
"Shopping is so going to happen." I complained to myself as I set the items on the counter, dropping the tub of potato salad and letting out a yelp as I expected it to go flying everywhere. "Thank god for ziploc containers, tupperware... whatever." I picked it up and started going about making food, not sure if Faith was going to come home soon and be hungry, or Xander. I looked around again. It was too quiet in this house and it was starting to wig me out, seriously. I wish Angel were here, Buffy too. Someone to make me feel safe at least. After a bit of a fit making a sandwich, I carried my plate and soda to the living room, making cozy on the sofa. Little bit of television until someone got home, please let someone get here soon. My arm started to throb a bit and I remembered my bottle of pills upstairs, grumbling I went up and took two, heading back down to finish my dinner. I was just finishing my meal when the phone rang, scaring the life outta me, I got up and answered it.
"Hello?" I said annoyed into the receiver. Silence. "Hello?! Look, prank call someone else okay? So not in the mood." I heard a laugh across the line and my body froze, I nearly dropped the receiver.
"Cordy, Cordy, Cordy." Angelus' voice broke the laugh. "Still so mouthy even though I'm going to come get you, maybe even feed you to Buffy. No one's going to save you either, they're all too busy. They left you alone with a broken hand, who's to say they won't just leave you alone all the time? Hmmm?" I whipped around, looking at the windows, how did he know I had a broken hand? Was he in the house? No, the spell, he couldn't be in here.
"Shut the hell up you big freak, you can't get in here. I'm safe. They will be back, they won't leave me... alone." I said a bit unsure, realizing they'd done just that, but they had good reason. Wesley was hurt. How the hell did Wesley get hurt anyway. "Find someone else to screw with freako, we're going to get you both and make this all different. You'll see."
"Oh yeah, I'm sure of that." He said smugly across the line, his voice sounded so close it made my skin crawl. "Faithy takin' care of Wesley, Buffy really fucked his world up... not sure if he made it or not. You should really go to the hospital and find out."
"Yeah sure, why don't I just tie a bell around my neck so you can find me right off?" I laughed at him, my voice angry. "I'm not coming out of this house. Faith told us to stay put, I'm staying put."
"Oh, I see. Faith told you to. Since when do you listen to murderers who enjoy punching you in the face? This a new trend?" He said snidely. "I'll see you soon enough Cordelia Chase, trust me, not that I already don't see you. Poor hand, your writing hand too, must suck. So much for using weapons eh?"
"Yeah well-" The line went dead and I looked at the receiver before slamming it back on the holder. "Freak." I wrapped my arms around myself and headed back into the living room, waiting anxiously for someone to be here. Make it safe.
