First of all, I have a dilemma! I've had this default icon forever but I can't change it, you guys, I just can't. I am clinging on to it like drowning.
Second of all, I should really study. I'm beginning to forget simple kanji (writing them, that is), and it's incredibly frustrating to stop in the middle of a simple sentence just to look up something you for all intents and purposes already know. That's Japanese for you, though. Another thing about Japanese is that... it's not a language inherently built for writing? It's not like English where everyone can stack up words together, be it skillfully or not. Japanese has the added factor of history behind the characters. That's why 'creative writing' is kind of a foreign concept here; writing isn't really seen as something people do in their idle time. I mean, obviously there's a large gap between written English for literature purposes and spoken English, but it doesn't hold a candle to Japanese.
Most of the time, Japanese is remarkably straightforward even in its softly-cutting-corners politeness. (This is why Sho, Nino and Jun impress me, by the way. Boys can definitely play with the language.)
My friend Shota and I figured all this out when I made the poor boy read some of my writing. Sho-chan, I'm sorry! He was really a champ at reading it, though. Fuck all if I could've been able to read something like that in Japanese even if I didn't have the issue of kanji.
And by 'figured out,' there is a hilarious amount of self-discovery you can have about your own language when talking to someone who speaks a different language.
Third of all,
OKAY SO, TOKYO. ... IT WAS BIG.
Understatement! Really, it was big and the train lines and subway were remarkably handy, but it's definitely not somewhere I'd like to live. When I came back to Nagoya and its tiny subway system, all of which I know, I was like, YES, YES. My heart is definitely here. Nagoya is small and I live in 田舎 (pretty much the countryside) and it's awesome.
But yes! I met up with
aeslis and
augustfai, both of who are the CUTEST and we had a lot of fun. There's another player in this story; the space heater we named Nino, mostly so we could come up with awesome phrases like, 'Yeah, Nino will keep you warm aaaaall night long, wink wink.'
It was quite cold. I hate winter.
We did a lot! I went to the Johnny's store, we also went to a remarkably shady store selling all kinds of Johnny's goods, we went to Keikarou (om nom nom, really quite delicious), we went to a hilarious condom shop NO LIE, I spent a crapton of money (not on condoms, thanks) (which is why I'm eating spaghetti for three straight days now)... it was excellent. So was the Shinkansen, once I got out of the smoking car. That train ain't kidding.
Some photos! Snagged from Facebook!
Arashi is all over Tokyo. We went on a treasure hunt to find their derp faces!
I was either collapsing into giggles or falling into DEEEEP SHAME. 笑
Us three! Yaaaay!
I'll definitely go to Tokyo again before leaving Japan, but for now I'm quite happy with Nagoya. ♥
Oh, by the way, I wrote a
Nino/Matsuken thing! THREE CHEERS FOR ME ACTUALLY FINISHING SOMETHING. They're cute, you know. This is a miracle. By the way,
aeslis, all eyes on you. ふふふ。
