January/February is a bad time to tour through Chicago. It's cold, there's snow to drive through, and people don't like leaving their houses. I get that.
But that translates to my not getting to see enough live music in the most depressing part of the year. And live music is my spiritual uplift. It is the thing I do that gives me the high and the rush that some people say they get from church. All I've seen since the Jill and Julia Show on New Years was Charlotte Martin. (My buddy Lauris Vidal was supposed to come a few weeks ago but that fell through.) It's also the having class on Wednesday and Thursdays that has kept me away from a few gigs I might have gone to.
But last night I saw Alexi Murdoch. Now, he didn't play Breathe or Orange Sky, but I got that rush. I needed that rush. And this week I'm ditching class to go to Milwaukee to see Cary Brothers supporting Joshua Radin. I'm sure Joshua puts on a good show, but I'm going for Cary. And thus continues my 100% history of only seeing shows at Pabst where I have a thing for the supporting act.
But really? I'm going for that rush. Alexi ran off after the gig last night to drive to his next city, and I didn't even get to flirt with him! But as much as it's about flirting, it's more about the rush. Damn I missed that rush.
