Here come the Turks. 1500 Turkish troops have just moved into Northern Iraq, to "control refugees and prevent the formation of a Kurdish State". Right. Thousands more are lining the Turkey/Iraq border. Since my brain is huddled somewhere under my bed, refusing to process this entire war, I'm glad you're here to break it down for me. I'm having trouble with the whole pride issue - of course I'm proud that our boys are doing their jobs and doing them well ... but can you revile their jobs while still wanting to cheer them?

You're finally on lj! Old hands like myself were wondering when you would finally succumb! ;)

I'm having trouble with the whole pride issue - of course I'm proud that our boys are doing their jobs and doing them well ... but can you revile their jobs while still wanting to cheer them?

I seem to be doing just that. Well not cheering them on but there is a definite feeling of pride whenever someone hops up and say how well they are doing. Part of it might be because I am can feel pride in almost anything Australian. One of those "recently dubbed Australian citizen" things maybe? Another part is that I know the Australian troops, as far as they are able, won't be involved in anything that will cause civilian casualties. For instance, there was a report yesterday saying that the RAAF had refused an assignment to bomb a target near a village because they said the intelligence regarding the civilian residents wasn't conclusive. Probably someone else went in and bombed the same target - but not the Australians ( ... )
